When I stand and take in the unique artwork crafted by one of the region’s only alcohol ink artists, Tony Nardella from Tootsie Art, the world around me feels as if it stops.

My eyes are drawn to an array of colours, and the patterns seem as though they are united precisely where they are meant to be.

My imagination wanders, as do my eyes, and in awe of what I see in front of me, Mr Nardella also takes me back.
His incredible knowledge of the technique, the way he describes the process and the fact that he just turned 70 and doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon is impressive.
Each piece is unique and impossible to replicate.

Mr Nardella’s love for art started at 16, and over time, he has been inspired by many different techniques.
However, after retiring in 2017 and watching endless YouTube videos on alcohol ink processes, his love for that particular medium flourished.
Now, after six years and many markets across the Goulburn Valley, the time to showcase his talent has come, with his first exhibition at the Noble Monks bar, café, and function centre in Shepparton.
“How many people can say they are 70, not just sitting on a couch and still doing what they love,” he said.
“How amazing is this? Not bad, hey.
“(Noble Monks owner) Aum (Modi) is a very kind person for allowing me to do this and giving me all this space.
“You just don’t get this kind of help every day. I am so grateful.”
Mr Nardella and Mr Modi have been friends for a few years. They bonded in the café after talking about life when Tony visited for breakfast.

“He is a good customer,” Mr Modi said.
“I like to get to know people, find out where they are from and what they do and one day, Tony showed me his work, and I offered him a wall.
“It’s incredible — I think I might keep the exhibition here for ever.”

For now, it seems the exhibition is staying, so why not check out the unique artwork?
“All my pieces are for sale, and I also do commission work,” Mr Nardella said.
“There is nothing else like it in our region. I love doing it and feel so lucky to have this opportunity.
“Come in and have some breakfast and have a look for yourself.
“The orange juice is the best I have ever tasted, and the food is delicious.”
