This year’s show, sponsored by O’Connor’s CaseIH Farm Machinery, promises to be a remarkable celebration of rural traditions and community spirit.
This year’s ag show boasts an impressive selection of programs and activities to cater to a diverse range of interests:
•Horse Program: Equestrian enthusiasts are in for a treat as the horse program returns, led by the renowned Sara Love. This year, attendees can look forward to the breeds ring, double chance open rings, and the always-entertaining fun ring.
•Snake Safe Victoria: For those curious about Australia’s unique wildlife, Snake Safe Victoria offers a rare opportunity. Get up close and personal with some of Australia’s incredible creatures, feel the scaly skin of snakes, and even snap a photo with a native animal while gaining insights into the world of these remarkable creatures.
•The Woodchop returns: Wood chopping enthusiasts will be delighted to hear that the Morris Wines Wood Chop is making a comeback, courtesy of the North Eastern And Border Axeman’s Association. This is a particularly special occurrence given the scarcity of timber shows in the region due to ongoing timber shortages.
•Animal Nursery: Families can enjoy quality time together at the animal nursery, where they can get up close and personal with adorable farm animals.
•Tent Pegging Demonstration: Witness a thrilling tent pegging demonstration by some of Australia’s best representatives, including the talented local Donna Davidson.
•Clydesdale and Carriage Rides: Experience the charm and elegance of Clydesdale horses with carriage rides, adding a touch of nostalgia to the event.
In keeping with tradition, the show will feature many other aspects of a rural show, including cattle handling and parading, sheep and fleece exhibits, farm produce displays, poultry exhibits, and pavilion competitions encompassing home crafts, photography, arts/crafts, and horticulture. The photography competition will also honour Rutherglen’s very own, the late Tony Reeckman, with a $100 prize and trophy.
Additionally, there will be displays of unique skills such as dog jumping and ferret racing, providing entertainment for all ages. Market enthusiasts will also find a limited number of stalls.
The organisers of the Rutherglen Annual Agricultural Show encourage people of all ages to participate as exhibitors or simply to come and enjoy this fantastic community event.
Entertainment is in abundance, with Victorian Showmen’s Guild side shows, local musicians, and community groups all contributing to the festive atmosphere.
As the show approaches, the Rutherglen Agricultural Society also extends an invitation to the community to support the event by volunteering for steward roles and other crucial tasks.
