Rubbish being dumped at former flood waste collection site

Residents in flood-affected areas are continuing to dump rubbish at former waste collection points after council stopped collecting from them.

Greater Shepparton City Council said it was experiencing “unsightly and dangerous” rubbish dumping at former flood waste collection sites in Mooroopna.

All previous flood waste collection points and skip bins are closed, and residents need to take their waste directly to a Resource Recovery Centre.

A council spokespoerson said dumping of waste was a health and safety issue, and also unsightly.

Any offloading of materials to the Mooroopna Scout Hall site or other sites is considered illegal dumping and fines will be issued.

Residents who still have flood-damaged household items to dispose of are able to do so free of charge until March 2.

They will need to complete an online registration form and be prepared to show ID proof at the resource recovery centre to have fees waived.

Those unable to fill out the online form are able to contact council’s customer service centre, where staff will fill out the form on their behalf.

The free disposal of waste applies only to flood-damaged household items and not to general waste disposal.

If your items are not from a flood-impacted property you will need to pay the appropriate fee for disposal.
