Yes, you read that correctly — September 27 marks the start of lawn bowls action in the region this year.
And although the start of summer is still a way off, the matches will be hotly contested.
Midweek pennant games across division two, three and four begin on Tuesday, with the staggered start allowing all teams the chance to play everyone twice across the campaign.
September action is foreign territory for Goulburn Murray Bowls Region pennant clashes, but the players are raring to go.
In division two — where squads are made up of 12 players and each rink plays 25 ends — Shepparton Park hosts Mooroopna Golf, Mooroopna faces Tallygaroopna, Seymour travels to Kyabram, Stanhope tackles Tatura-Hill Top and Shepparton Golf plays East Shepparton.
All matches start at 10am.
Division three is the same format and clashes between East Shepparton and Kyabram — and Mooroopna Golf and Seymour VRI — headline the action.
Shepparton Park travels to Nagambie to kick off its season, Euroa hosts Avenel and Numurkah tackles Shepparton Golf in the other fixtures.
In division four, where matches last 21 ends, Kyabram hosts East Shepparton, Tatura-Hill Top battles Merrigum, Seymour tackles Murchison, Dookie sets the stage for Shepparton Park and Eildon takes on Alexandra.
In a fortnight, division one’s Edna Harling Shield (12 players, 25 ends) begins — as does division five action, which has eight players battle across two rinks and 21 ends.
Before that, division five weekend pennant begins on October 1, with the remaining six divisions — including the Allan Matheson Shield — starting on October 15.
