The Towners’ finals hopes have taken a major hit as Avenel collected a huge scalp in its bid to play finals.

In a match-up of two teams on the verge of finals, the Towners could not make a comeback as the Swans held on for a memorable 43-32 win on Sunday afternoon at Violet Town Recreation Reserve.
The win, Avenel’s fourth in a row, sees it leap above the Towners and into sixth spot on the ladder.

The result leaves Violet Town in eighth place, two points adrift of a finals berth with Merrigum bettering the Towners on the ladder on percentage alone.
Avenel faces an early elimination final-like contest with a round 16 encounter against arch-rival Nagambie to decide its finals fate while Violet Town relies on beating bottom-of-the-table Rushworth and Merrigum and the Swans slipping up.
In other results, Tallygaroopna seems to be back at its damaging best following a 36-goal rout over Undera on Saturday.

The Kyabram District League A-grade reigning premier has built up a five-game winning streak ahead of its clash with the side that handed the Redlegs their last loss in round 10.
Tallygaroopna sits third on the ladder and is one win behind second-placed Dookie United.
A win next weekend over the Thunder will see Tallygaroopna snatch second spot and earn a rest in the first week of finals action.

Nagambie had a convincing 81-38 win over Murchison-Toolamba and Shepparton East defeated Lancaster by 24 goals.
Longwood claimed its second win of 2023 with a 43-38 win over Rushworth, while Stanhope must win its final match of the season if it is to feature in finals following the 49-40 defeat to Girgarre.
