The 28-year-old, who played most of her career with the Auckland rugby union side, wants to be "a role model on the field and off the field" for other young women who switch codes.
Hufanga will line up in round four of the NRLW in Brisbane at Langlands Park against Parramatta on Saturday after her quadruple try effort in the 40-12 win over North Queensland
"I've just got to stay grounded," Hufanga said.
"The hype has been crazy the last couple of days. In my head I am like, 'man I can't wait for this to be over'. One of my mates told me on the plane on the way back from Townsville that it is OK to take in praise.
"At the same time, I do want to focus on this week's game. Last week is last week.
"I am just overwhelmed but I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to score those tries if it wasn't for my teammates."
Hufanga had scored four tries before in a rugby union match in New Zealand, while also scoring four in a rugby union international for Tonga in a 108-7 thrashing of Papua New Guinea.
After playing rugby league for the Ponsonby Ponies in the 2022 rugby league season, Hufanga was New Zealand's star in the delayed 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England last year.
She was the Kiwi Ferns player of the tournament and gained selection in the World Team of the tournament.
"After the World Cup I knew that the NRLW was the goal for me. I wanted to find a team that would look after me and I knew the Broncos was the team I had in my heart," Hufanga said.
She said coach Scott Prince flew to New Zealand with other Broncos staff to meet her.
"I like people like that who take time out to show me what they want and to believe in me," she said.
"Ali Brigginshaw, who is our captain, is one of my role models as well so when I knew the Broncos was the team I wanted to play for it was cool to meet Ali."
Round four of the NRLW kicks off in Wollongong on Saturday when St George Illawarra host Canberra.Â
The Broncos clash with the winless Eels is the second game of a double-header at Langlands Park, which kicks off with the North Queensland-Wests Tigers showdown.
On Sunday, Cronulla host the Sydney Roosters before the undefeated Gold Coast travel to Newcastle.
