The grants were awarded under the Social Recovery Quick Response Grant program to support small-scale projects that encourage community members to lead their own recovery activities.
Council said the successful applications focused on community-led approaches, which is one of the six key principles of the National Principles for Disaster Recovery, along with recognising and building capacity.
Council invited eligible not-for-profit organisations and community groups to make an application for funding. Eight were received and each was successful.
“This grant program is a particularly important one for council. The October 2022 flood event was devastating and affected every member of the community in some way,” Mayor Shane Sali said.
“We understand the importance of coming together when times are tough, and offering support and an outlet to take your mind off things.”
