Ten staff members joined council staff with the aim of planting 1000 plants in Tatura on Monday.
Greater Shepparton City Council environmental officer Jonathan Diment said the corporate planting day brought the One Tree Per Child goal near to completion.
“The aim there is to plant a tree per child in the Greater Shepparton area, so the overall aim is 21,000 by the end of this month.
“It’s been running since June and we’re pretty much there now.”
He said while many individuals and school groups had jumped on board to help in some way, Unilever was the first large organisation to contribute to the project.
“Today we have Unilever, who have been excellent in coming out and assisting us in such an important program,” Mr Diment said.
“We’re very grateful for that and hopefully when our program starts up again next year we have a lot more corporate companies and businesses on board to do the same.”
Unilever human resources business partner Helen Grigg said when approached by the council to be involved, the company was more than happy to be a part of something that resonated with the organisation’s values.
“Unilever’s got a really strong focus on environment and their practices so it’s part of our value system that we do this kind of thing.
