* The LA Rams will host a game at the MCG next year, the first time a regular-season NFL game has been played in the Asia Pacific region
* This is the first new major sporting event announced by the Victorian Government since the Commonwealth Games debacle. The Games will also be held next year, now in Glasgow, with Victoria having to pay $380 million in compensation after deciding not to go ahead with the project.
* No confirmation on when, but the NFL said at Thursday morning's announcement it would likely be in their round one. That is early September, potentially clashing with the start of the AFL finals. An obvious scenario is that the game is played in the AFL's pre-finals bye week.
* Significantly, the Victorian Government and the NFL have praised the AFL for their role in the negotiations. The AFL has also expressed enthusiasm for the historic game.
* Reportedly LA's opposition next year will be the Philadelphia Eagles and that makes sense given the Eagles' roster features Australian Jordan Mailata.
* Obviously Australia's biggest ground capacity is a factor in the venue. NSW Premier Chris Minns says they looked at it, adding the NFL wanted "a king's ransom".
* The NFL can schedule up to eight international regular-season games per season as it looks to continue a rapid growth in its fanbase. London, Madrid and Berlin will host games this year.
