The Scorchers piled on 10 goals in their clash against Mooroopna, with Matt Irwin snaring half of that number.
Richard Horton (two), Matt Higgins, Ryan Mackenzie and Michael Neilsen also found their way onto the scoresheet for the victors, while Juancho Mackenzie and Mat Long claimed consolation goals for the Cats.
Mooroopna had a much better time of it in the B-grade men’s division as it edged out the Shepparton Strikers in a 2-1 result.
Inder Singh, Greg Luscombe and Long were brilliant for the Cats, while Max Cole, Jacob Collins and Matt Collins stood out for the Strikers.
The other clash in the grade had Echuca-Moama defeating SYC 6-4.
Nigel Berryman of the River Rats and Damien Duggan of the Scorchers snared two goals apiece to lead the way for their respective outfits.
With a number of matches rescheduled across the women’s divisions the B-grade fixtures between the Cats and Strikers and Scorchers and River Rats were the only games which went ahead at the weekend.
Echuca-Moama was dominant in its win against SYC, completing a 4-0 result thanks to the work of Olivia Mathers, Tess Harvey and Chloe Kell.
Rachelle Collins scored a solitary goal for the Strikers which was enough to steer them past the Cats and bring the sides level on the ladder.
Mathers was also impressive in the under-14 competition, scoring three goals in Echuca-Moama’s 11-0 rout of the Scorchers.
Other three-goal individual performances across the junior grades included Tyler Green for Mooroopna in a 4-1 under-14 win against the Strikers, Oliver Gillies for Benalla in a 4-1 under-12 win against Strikers Blue and Will Kerr of Echuca-Moama in a 5-0 under-12 win over Euroa.
Excitement is palpable across the association about the upcoming weekend as Hockey Victoria brings Premier League action to the Goulburn Valley.
Altona and Essendon will play four games at McEwen Reserve on Saturday (men’s and women’s premier league and reserves) from 12.45pm.
