Organiser Meena Malla said the event was a collaboration betewen Nepalese Shepparton Community and the local unit of Didi Baini Samaj Victoria, a feminist group of Nepalese women working to create a better world for women in Nepal and Australia.
Didi Baini Samaj Victoria (DBSV), was formed in 2012 by a group of strong active Nepalese women who are ommitted to lobbying for a better world for women in Nepal and Australia.
"We wanted to take a stand together against gender based violence,“ Ms Malla said.
“Violence is not only against women, men are also victims, elderly people are also victims of violence.”
Ms Malla said the theme of respect was central to their discussions during the meet-up on December 7.
“If there is no respect then there is violence,” she said.
“In every community they are experiencing this type of violence.”
The event welcomed supporters from across the community, and together they produced a video responding to the question, ‘What does respect mean to you?’.
“I believe we have a diverse community and with respect we will provide equal justice to everyone,” Ms Malla said.
