The Blues have two wins and a draw from their three games but their ability to land the killer blow has come into question after they coughed up a late lead in their draw against Richmond and then let GWS keep last weekend's clash close despite dominating large portions.
Carlton's accuracy was a major flaw against the Giants, kicking a woeful 9.20 and needing a gift late goal via a controversial dissent free kick to hold on for a 10-point win.
Blues boss Michael Voss said returning to Marvel Stadium was unlikely to make the difference.
"The sticks are the same width apart so not much changes there for us," he said.
"We've just got to make sure we put (shots) through the big ones a little bit more.
"We're always looking for little opportunities to improve. There's some fundamentals in the game we need to be able to get right.
"It's pretty important we don't tar the whole performance with the same brush and we look at parts of the game we did really well.
"Clearly out of that game we weren't able to finish our work, so we hope that changes in the medium term."
Fans will again be robbed of the chance to see twin brothers Ben and Harry McKay square off, with the Kangaroos' Ben still sidelined with a foot injury.
Remarkably, the twins have never faced each other in the AFL despite being on lists for eight years.
But perhaps a midfield battle between Carlton's Patrick Cripps and North's Luke Davies-Uniacke will suffice, with the Kangaroos gun back after missing last Saturday's loss to Hawthorn with a calf injury.
Voss suggested Carlton would not send a tag to Davies-Uniacke, but said his side would need to work hard to curb the 23-year-old's influence.
"He's certainly a real centrepiece for them in there," Voss said.
"They've had some real stoppage dominance over the last little period of time.
"His performances - he's been pretty impressive, he's been very powerful.
"It's a definite watch for us."
