The Cats shocked the Haisman Shield competition when they dismantled Katandra for a miserly 48 runs at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
Gun recruit Luke Zanchetta headlined the classy bowling effort and walked away with 4-22 from nine overs.
Zanchetta found plenty of support from fellow newcomer Will Dundon (2-15), Jake Wright (2-10) and Aaron DiFede (1-1).
“It was a fantastic win. We just stuck to our game plan and took all our chances,” Mooroopna coach Brad Lowe said.
“Everything clicked, it was just one of those days really. It's not often you finish at 3 pm.”
It was an forgettable day out for the Katandra batsmen, with only Ryleigh Shannon (12 runs) and Karl Rosevear (10) reaching double figures.
But Lowe was full of praise of his side's strike bowler, who claimed the opening three poles of the match.
“Luke just bowls that perfect line-and-length delivery every time,” he said.
“He does everything right with the ball and he's been a fantastic pick-up for the club.
“He's got plenty of knowledge about coaching and everyone at the club is learning off him. From a club point of view, we are rapt with how he has been performing.
“And both Will and Jake bowled well. Will is a real work-horse at one end, while Jake looks like he is really relaxed out there.”
Mooroopna made light work of its run-chase and reached 50 runs with no loss of wicket.
Openers Corey Windridge (26 not out) Brodie McDonald (22 not out) batted strongly at the crease and made it easy viewing for their teammates in the shed.
“Sometimes your mindset is a bit off and you can fall into a hole when chasing low scores,” Lowe said.
“But they didn't do anything silly and waited to hit the bad ball when it was there.”
Looking ahead to this weekend, Mooroopna will enjoy a week off, while Katandra will host in-form Waaia.
THE GAME
Mooroopna 0-50 (Corey Windridge 26 not out, Brodie McDonald 22 not out) d Katandra 48 (Ryleigh Shannon 12, Luke Zanchetta 4-22, Jake Wright 2-10, Will Dundon 2-15)
STAR PLAYER
Luke Zanchetta (Mooroopna): We feel that this might not be the last time that we mention the talents of Zanchetta. The spearhead quick has made an instant impression at the Cattery and expect plenty more scalps from the recruit.
