Strathbogie Shire Council is looking for young nature enthusiasts.

People aged 18 to 29 years who are interested in rocks, soil, fungi, plants, animals, climate change or ways to care for Country and manage land can sign up for the Nature Stewards program.

Mayor Laura Binks said the program would run on Saturdays from May 6 to June 17, shifting between venues in Violet Town, Euroa and Nagambie.

“The program will be hosted by council and will be run by conservation experts, connecting curious people with their local and wider habitats,” she said.

“It’s a great way to gain knowledge, learn practical skills and meet like-minded others in the local community.

“Participants will discover all sorts of ways to help nature at home and through local volunteering.”

The program will begin each week with a lecture followed by an educational field trip.

Cr Binks said the course was being offered in partnership with the Victorian Government and Victorian National Parks Association.

Applications for the program close April 23 and the course is subsidised for Strathbogie Shire residents.
