Travis Atkins Memorial Match to go ahead after date swap

Kyabram’s annual Travis Atkins Memorial Day will be held on July 11.

The match is held between Kyabram Junior Football Club's and St Augustine’s Junior Football Club's under-10, under-12 and under-14 teams.

The main game will be played between the under-14 teams, and the Atkins family will present a medal to the best player on the ground.

The match is held in remembrance of Travis Atkins, who died in a car accident more than two decades ago after getting into a car with a driver who was found to be drinking and speeding.

The match was due to be held last month, but Victoria’s snap lockdown meant it was postponed until this weekend.

The week before the match’s original date, Travis’s sister Sherrie visited training sessions of both under-14 sides with local police officer Frank Scopelliti to reinforce the message of the day — look out for your mates and be careful about who’s behind the wheel of a car.

Games begin from 10 am for under-10s, while the under-12s begin at 11 am and the main game will be at 12.20 pm.

Presentations will follow the main game, and a coffee van and barbecue breakfast will be available.
