Echuca Village CFA members, captain Darrell Phillips and first lieutenant Brian Joyce, were invited to attend Government House in Melbourne on Australia Day as a gesture of appreciation for their outstanding efforts on the front line during last year’s the floods.

The pair was invited by the Victorian Government to witness a flag-bearing ceremony and have a tour of the site.
Representatives from Echuca Fire Brigade were also invited to attend.
Mr Phillips said walking around the property was a ‘sentimental’ experience for him as his father had worked at the house as a painter from about 1974 until 1990.
His dad even took him for a visit once when he was about 10 years old.
“He painted the ceilings and painted the lights,” he said.
“You just never know where being with the CFA will take you.”
Echuca Village CFA is always on the lookout for new members.
“Whether you can only attend two fires a year or 500 a year, as long as you’re giving your 100 per cent then that is good enough,“ Mr Phillips said.
