As expected, the Gators pushed aside the winless Melbourne Uni outfit 79-46, with a dominant first three quarters setting up the win.
Nick Dodd top-scored with 16 points, with a field goal percentage of 70 per cent.
He was supported by Sam Beks (15), Matt Bartlett (13) and Dylan Wayman (11) as the home team turned it on during Saturday night's contest.
Bartlett also had eight assists and Ian Wright had six rebounds.
The following afternoon, the Gators started the slower of the two teams and trailed by 10 points at quarter-time against Corio Bay.
The deficit at Geelong Arena crept out to 12 points at half-time before a Gator surge in the third term levelled the scores at the final break.
They couldn't keep the momentum going, however, losing the final quarter by eight to leave the scores 79-87 at the completion.
Bartlett and Beks combined for 36 points (18 each), while Wayman added 16.
Beks and Wayman also did plenty of work at the other end of the court, with Beks finishing with 11 defensive rebounds and 12 in total and Wayman had 10 rebounds, nine of which were at the defensive end.
Coach Josh Waight was happy with his team's performance across the weekend despite the team still being behind the ledger at 4-5.
“We saw some good patches of basketball and found a way to win on Saturday,” Waight said.
“We were able to get plenty of game time into our players (on Saturday).
“We lost a few players on the Sunday, but the eight players we did have fought hard for the 40 minutes and things just didn’t go our way.”
The dominant performance to start the match against Melbourne Uni, allowed Waight to juggle the magnets in the final term.
“It's good to be able to get the kids of the group into the game and expose them into men's basketball,” he said.
“It (the fast start) allowed us to rest some of the players that needed one coming into Sunday.”
Corio Bay proved a trickier proposition for Waight's men and it was the opposition's shooting that ultimately was the Gators’ downfall.
“They came out firing in the first quarter and shot some big shots,” Waight said.
“To our boys’ credit, they fought it out.
“It (the deficit) was 16 points in the third and we levelled it up, but they hit some big shots down the stretch and that was the difference in the end."
Waight said his team would be working on its shooting and ball movement during the week before facing Bulleen (5-4) at East Doncaster Secondary College on Saturday night.
