The town's weekly newspaper has been purchased by senior journalist Dominique Cosgriff.
The Leader was established in 1895 and purchased by the Morris family in 1908.
The paper was managed by Lorna Morris for more than three decades and more recently by her daughter, Bev Hutchins, the third generation of the Morris family.
The paper has endured many social and economic challenges over the years and survived a major fire which destroyed the back half of the Melville St building in 1987.
Editor at the time, Tony Morris, in the true spirit of publishing, managed to get the paper out on time including the story about the fire.
Ms Cosgriff, a mother of two, has worked in a variety of jobs over the years in the Shepparton area, including as a journalist with the Shepparton News.
She enjoys publishing, meeting different people. and hearing their interesting stories, but acknowledges that she never dreamed of being in this position a few years ago.
“Everyone has something they can do. I like writing.”
“I love the community here and feeling like you are part of the community.”
She doesn't envisage any sudden changes and plans to build on what has been established by the Morris family.
“COVID-19 brought us lots of challenges last year and we had to change some things. We introduced features like the ‘Cuppa with Dom’ so we got a good idea on what people enjoyed reading.”
The purchase was completed in December, 2020.
