The Bombers were back to their Goulburn Valley League best at home against the Saints, composing a sound 15-goal effort to make the Saints go marching home with a 51-point defeat to stew on.
Take out the game’s meat, though, and Benalla comes within touching distance.
Kyabram kicked a massive 62 points throughout the second and third terms, and in comparison to Benalla’s meagre three goals, it basically shows how the Bombers’ grunt during the ‘premiership quarter’ landed them such a handsome victory.
Earlier on, Benalla had recovered from a Kyabram scoring clump to trail by 13 points at the first break.
William Wild, playing his fourth senior match of the season, showed his nous around goals with two successive majors following Anthony DePasquale’s opening effort.
The Saints hit back to come within a goal of the hosts, but Brad Whitford iced the cagey first quarter to restore Kyabram’s margin.
A behind-heavy second stanza kept Kyabram three goals to the good.
But when the Sherrin hit the deck for quarter number three, the Bombers were off to the races.
DePasquale slotted a trio of majors as Kyabram’s delivered a seven-goal stack on Benalla’s doorstep, and despite the Saints putting two on the board, there was simply too many arrears to pay with one quarter left.
The final term was split 14 points apiece, including Wild’s fourth goal of the game in a performance that surely warrants a look in for another senior cameo in next week’s clash with Echuca.
One man who will look to make a difference against the Murray Bombers is DePasquale, who also ended Saturday’s 15.14 (103) to 7.10 (52) win with four goals.
Others to star for Kyabram were Josh Dillon, Will Golds, Jackson Griffiths and Liam Ogden.
For Benalla, Nick Brazil booted four majors while Nick Mellington and Mark Marriott had large says on the game for the Saints.
