Council infrastructure director Gary Randhawa said the park, which sits beside Victoria Park Lake and adjacent to the Goulburn River in central Shepparton, has extensive damage after the floods.
“All of the cabins at the site were damaged by floodwaters spilling, along with the reception building, caretaker residence, amenity blocks and camp kitchen,” he said.
“Council is still in the process of working with its insurance provider to determine the extent of the damage and the work required to ensure the site is operational once again.”
Mr Randhawa said the caravan park was currently closed and would require rebuilding of several key assets before it could reopen.
“Council is unable to determine a reopening date at this stage. We will provide further information when appropriate,” he said.
The caravan park’s closure removes it as an option for both visiting tourists and temporary accommodation for people displaced by the floods, further exacerbating an already serious housing crisis in the city.
