The temporary accommodation site, now commonly referred to as Rochester South, is expected to have more than 400 people on site once demountable buildings have been moved to the Rosaia Rd location.
Caravan were the first stage of the site development, offering more than 40 people accommodation for almost two weeks now.
The units which were starting to arrive late last week will be ready for their new residents this week.
Meegan Stanley, who is usually the Bendigo-based Regional Development Manager for Anglicare, has taken on the role of running the healthcare services company’s re-location program after the Rochester flood.
She said there would be “quite an increase’’ in the amount of people at the Elmore site.
Anglicare’s involvement is to co-ordinate intake and triage of the flood-affected people who are needing accommodation.
“When we are told the accommodation is ready to go we will be moving these people onto the site.
“We haven’t been told numbers just yet and we are continuing to complete intakes and triages.
“We will be doing that through the 4Rs building until Friday (November 11),’’ she said.
She said it was important that people did not call the Bendigo Anglicare office and, instead, either visited the 4Rs site (up until Friday) or called the 1800 number (1800 809 722).
Ms Stanley said once people had completed the intake process a risk assessment of each case would take place and people would be prioritised based on their current living situation.
“They will be placed onto a list, categorised and when accommodation becomes available that will be offered,” she said.
Ms Stanley said the aim was to provide people who were currently staying with family or friends, in motels or caravans, with a more permanent offering.
“Everyone is so caring and happy to accommodate their family and friends.
“What we are hoping to do is offer these people some independence,” she said.
Anglican is currently on site at the Elmore village (Rochester South) every day, offering some case management support.
“We want to ensure the residents there will have the support services they need and in the coming weeks, as more people move onto the site, we will have a stronger presence,” Ms Stanley said.
She said, in the meantime, the best thing for people having accommodation problems was to contact the 1800 number, or present face to face at the 4Rs before the weekend.
“People shouldn’t call the Anglicare office Bendigo,” she said.
