They are Yorta Yorta men and despite Impey's Hawks and Simpkin's Kangaroos going down, both players gave their all for their respective clubs.
Impey recorded 15 touches, three marks and a tackle as Hawthorn lost to Gold Coast 11.10 (76) to 17.11 (113).
Impey's teammate, Mansfield's James Cousins had 23 possessions in the loss.
Simpkin had 26 touches, five marks and six tackles in North's 10.8 (68) to 12.16 (88) loss to St Kilda.
Simpkin's teammate, Shaun Atley, from Rochester, had 15 touches and three marks in the round 11 clash.
Mooroopna's Clayton Oliver continued his terrific season as did Melbourne, which defeated the Western Bulldogs in the top-of-the-table clash.
Oliver had 33 disposals, five marks, five tackles and five clearances in the 13.9 (87) to 8.11 (59) victory.
The win propelled the Demons to top spot on the ladder at the halfway point of the season.
Finley's Tom Hawkins also had a win when his Geelong outfit defeated Collingwood on Saturday afternoon.
Hawkins kicked three goals in a match that didn't reach any great heights, with wayward kicking in front of goal haunting both teams as the Cats went on to win 8.13 (61) to 6.15 (51).
Echuca's Ollie Wines was named in Port Adelaide's best against Fremantle in the round's final match on Sunday.
Wines had 35 possessions, 24 of which were handballs, three marks, seven tackles and eight clearances in the 18.7 (115) to 9.15 (69) win.
On the other side of the coin, Seymour's David Mundy collected 25 touches and six clearances for the Dockers.
Shepparton's Jordon Butts couldn't get his team over the line as Adelaide lost to Richmond 12.11 (83) to 17.9 (111).
Butts had 10 touches, four marks and two tackles in the loss.
Butts, who has played every game this year, spoke to the club's media recently and announced a surprising candidate for the toughest opponent he has played on in 2021.
“Probably Matt Taberner from Fremantle, he’s just a good contested mark,” Butts said.
“I like to pride myself on my one v one contests and being able to outstring my opponents. But he’s been really good one-on-one and he protects the space well, so he’s probably the hardest.”
The one point win over Melbourne in round 10, which ended the Demons’ winning streak, was "unreal", according to Butts.
“It was unreal, it was good to see Tex (Taylor Walker) kick the goal that put us in front,” he said.
“I knew there was only so many seconds left, so I had to just dig in for that last 30-odd seconds.”
