Two of the service lines connecting houses to powerlines across the road on Archer St had to be disconnected from the houses, leaving the two homes without power.
Another two lines to two other houses near the Gilchrist St intersection had to be inspected by Powercor workers, while there was also some damage to a cross arm on a nearby power pole.A Powercor spokesperson said crews were called out shortly after 9 am to reports of wires down, resulting from what they suspect was a vehicle hitting them.
The house resident Zack Blamey lives in was the worst-hit, with wooden mounting that connected the line to the house torn off the roof, pulling off guttering as it went.
Mr Blamey was surprised when he received a phone call from his housemate – who owns the house – to tell him the powerlines had come down and he was not to go out the front door.
He heard a noise about when the lines were pulled down, but said he just thought it was the toddler “running amok” in the hallway, but then got up to find he was home alone.
While the roof was damaged, Mr Blamey believes it could have been a lot worse.
“It could have taken half the roof with it,” he said.
