Round One of the Growing Victoria’s Botanic Gardens Grants Program will see 17 gardens across the state receive grants worth $1.4 million.
Benalla Botanical Garden will receive $24 400 to fund an upgrade to the garden’s amenity and support improved accessibility.
Works include improved lighting, an upgraded entrance and signage and visitor information.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes welcomed the funding.

“The Benalla Botanical Garden is a wonderful place for our community to come together and enjoy beautiful open space – this funding will ensure it remains that way,” Ms Symes said.
“This is a great initiative that recognises the importance of these gardens to the local community.”
The grants program was launched this year and will provide nearly $4 million over two years.
The value of the grants has been boosted by substantial local financial and in-kind co-contributions to projects.
Benalla supports firies
Victoria has a rich legacy of botanic gardens established in the 19th century and there are now more than 40 across the state.
The gardens hold significant collections of trees and plants, offer iconic landscapes and open spaces, support research and provide for recreation, tourism and community use.
The grants program also supports the objectives of Biodiversity 2037, the Labor Government’s plan to stop the decline of Victoria’s native plants and animals and improve the natural environment for a healthy, sustainable future.
Round two of the Growing Victoria’s Botanic Gardens grants program will open in mid-2020.
