If it wasn’t for Tocumwal losing its four points due to a disputed player clearance in round one against Yarroweyah, the Redeyes would be on the bottom of the ladder.
Although they’ve played three teams who are all top four calibre — Strathmerton, Deni Rovers and Waaia — things don’t get any easier tomorrow against Picola United at home.
Coach Jack Tyndall said the team is continuing to get back to basics and the aim is to get their first win on the board.
‘‘If we want to play finals football we have to win. We knew the first few weeks were going to be tough against the better sides but we have to win,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s always difficult to play Picola, they’ve been one of the better sides for the past five years.
‘‘I’m not thinking about Picola and their game plan, we have our style and brand, and that’s what we will be focused on.’’
Blighty are yet to score 50 points in a match, and were decimated last week against Waaia, kicking just two goals to 19.
Tyndall said the scoreboard didn’t reflect how the Redeyes played, adding the return of Dane Maxwell this week should help his forward line.
‘‘We had plenty of the ball but couldn’t hit a target or score when we went into our forward line.
‘‘Darcy Morris is our main target but we can’t expect him as an 18 year-old to carry the load by himself.
‘‘He’s played well through the first three weeks and bringing in Dane should help Darcy and provide an extra marking forward.
‘‘Another problem we had was turning the ball over a lot against Waaia so we’ll work on that during training, but overall our ball use was better.’’
Dylan Maxwell is also expected to make a return this week.
Selection: Picola by 20 points.
